Volume and hybrid sets are designed to replace mascara entirely. If you still want definition, the formula matters enormously.

The compatibility rules

• Skip waterproof mascara. It needs strong removers and rubbing — both stress lash bonds.
• Skip fibre mascaras. Fibres cling to extensions and are very hard to remove cleanly.
• If you must: a water-based mascara on the tips only, never at the bonds, removed the same evening with an oil-free cleanser.
• Liner: creamy and gel liners migrate into the lash line; a fine, water-based pencil or nothing is safer.
• Removal: oil-free, always, working away from the bonds.
