How to Clean Lash Extensions (Without Losing Them)

The gentle daily cleanse routine that supports retention and a fresh, comfortable lash line.

Many lash wearers avoid water because they fear it will loosen their extensions. In reality, once the adhesive has fully set (usually after the first 24–48 hours — follow your technician's advice), gentle cleansing is one of the best habits you can build. A clean lash line is more comfortable, looks fresher, and avoids the build-up of makeup, oil and everyday debris around the bonds.

The 90-second evening ritual

  1. Wash your hands. Clean hands first, always.
  2. Remove face makeup away from the lash line — work outwards, not towards the eyes.
  3. Apply an oil-free lash cleanser to a soft cleansing brush.
  4. Cleanse the lash line with light downward strokes. No rubbing, no scrubbing.
  5. Rinse carefully with cool or lukewarm water.
  6. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth. Never towel-rub.
  7. Air dry, or use the cool setting on a hairdryer at a distance.
  8. Brush with a clean, dry spoolie — only when lashes are completely dry.

What to avoid

Oil-based cleansers and balms near the lash line, bi-phase makeup removers, cotton pads that snag, sharing eye cosmetics, and old mascara. Never re-wet a dried mascara with water or saliva — discard it instead.

This routine is educational and not a treatment plan.

When to contact a professional. If you have persistent irritation, swelling, pain, discharge or vision changes, stop using eye cosmetics and contact an eye-care professional.
