Retention
Why Are My Lash Extensions Falling Out So Fast?
Normal shedding vs. retention mistakes — and the habits that quietly cost you lashes every week.
First, the reassuring part: natural lashes shed constantly as part of their growth cycle, and every extension attached to a natural lash leaves with it. Losing a few lashes a day is normal. What isn't normal is a set looking sparse within the first week.
The most common retention mistakes
- Oil near the lash line. Oily skincare, balms and oil cleansers can weaken adhesive bonds over time.
- Skipping the daily cleanse. Residue build-up stresses bonds and makes lashes twist.
- Waterproof or fibre mascara. Removing it usually requires products and friction lashes don't survive well.
- Sleeping face-down or on your side. Pillow friction bends and pulls lashes night after night.
- Steam, sauna and heavy sweat in the first 24–48 hours. The adhesive needs time to cure fully.
- Picking, pulling and twisting. The single fastest way to lose extensions — and stress natural lashes.
How to find your pattern
Track a week of habits honestly: cleansing, makeup, gym, sleep position, and any picking. A pattern almost always appears — and it's about habits, not blame. If your habits are solid and retention is still poor, talk to your lash technician about the application, adhesive and your lash cycle.
When to contact a professional. If lash loss comes with irritation, pain, swelling or discharge, pause eye cosmetics and speak to an eye-care professional before your next appointment.
